Klentzman Intermediate Band

Welcome to the Klentzman Intermediate Band Program! Your child will have an opportunity to enroll in beginning band classes for the 2018-19 school year and no previous musical instruction is required.

All band classes are scheduled during the school day elective period and students will alternate taking band one day and P.E. the next. Students who select band for their elective will be enrolled in band for the entire academic year.  Students will learn the basic fundamentals of reading musical notation and the concepts of playing a wind instrument: breathing, tone production, posture, articulation, pitch and rhythms.

5th and 6th grade beginning band classes will include flute, clarinet, saxophone trumpet/cornet, baritone, trombone, tuba and percussion.  The band will perform a Winter Concert and a Spring Concert.

There are many factors that have to be taken into consideration when determining instrument selection: balanced band instrumentation, physical size of student, lip and teeth formation, musical aptitude scores, and the availability of instruments.  My goal is to select an instrument for your child that will provide them the greatest success.

At the beginning of the school year I will survey each student and we will make the final instrument selection.

We have a number of school owned instruments but we may not have enough for all students. In order to use a school instrument you will be required to pay the yearly $25 instrument insurance fee.  If there is not a school instrument available you will need to rent an instrument from a music dealer and we will have a Band Instrument Rental Event shortly after the beginning of school. If you want your child enrolled in band make sure to select band on the course selection form.

Your child will have a opportunity to play a band instrument and you may also obtain information about the Band Program.

Sincerely,

Mr. Savoy
